Would Google Ads work for my business?

Yes, for most businesses. But only when it’s set up for your industry and managed by someone who knows what they’re doing.

Google Ads works for the vast majority of businesses. When someone searches for the product or service you offer, Google Ads can put your business in front of them at the exact moment they’re ready to buy. Very few other forms of advertising can do that.

The catch is that Google Ads only works when it’s set up correctly for your particular industry. A campaign that works well for a dental practice will look very different to one for a plumber, a law firm or an online store. The keywords, the ad copy, the bidding strategy, the landing pages and the way conversions are tracked all need to suit how your customers search and how they buy.

Why relying on Google reps or Performance Max won’t cut the mustard

Many business owners get a call from a Google rep offering to “help” with their account, or they’re encouraged to run a Performance Max campaign and let Google’s automation take care of everything. It sounds easy, but it rarely delivers the results you’re after.

Google reps are there to help you spend more on Google. They often change roles, they don’t know your business or your industry, and their recommendations aren’t necessarily focused on getting you the best return.

Performance Max campaigns hand most of the control over to Google. You get very limited visibility into where your ads are showing, which searches are triggering them and what’s actually bringing in leads. Without careful setup and close monitoring, a large share of your budget can end up on low-quality clicks that never turn into customers.

Google Ads is extremely competitive

In most industries, you’re bidding against dozens of other businesses for the same customers, and many of them have professionals managing their accounts. Every wasted click pushes up your cost per lead, while your competitors keep refining their campaigns.

To compete, you need someone who knows what they’re doing: someone who understands keyword strategy, negative keywords, ad copy, bidding, landing pages and conversion tracking, and who has experience in your industry.

Already running Google Ads and it’s not working?

If you’re already running Google Ads and you’re not getting the results you expected, it doesn’t necessarily mean the strategy won’t work for your business. More often than not, it simply means the account hasn’t been set up and managed correctly.

Common problems include:

  • Keywords that are too broad, so your ads show for irrelevant searches
  • Missing negative keywords, which wastes budget on the wrong clicks
  • Conversion tracking that isn’t set up, or isn’t tracking the right things, so there’s no way of knowing what’s working
  • Ads sending people to a page that isn’t built to turn visitors into enquiries
  • Relying entirely on automated campaigns and Google’s recommendations

In many cases, fixing these issues can turn a poorly performing account into one that delivers a steady flow of leads.

Why ongoing management is crucial

Google Ads is not a “set and forget” platform. Setting up a campaign correctly is only the first step.

Your competitors are constantly changing their bids, ads and offers, and new competitors enter the market all the time. On top of that, Google Ads is a moving target. Google regularly changes how its auctions, campaign types, automation and reporting work, and settings that worked well six months ago may not work today.

Ongoing management means your campaigns are monitored, tested and refined every month. Budget is moved to what’s working, wasted spend is cut out, and your account keeps pace with both your competitors and Google’s changes.
